Oysters - The Builders
Oysters are one of the most important species in the Bay.
They:
- Filter pollutants from the water
- Improve clarity and oxygen levels
- Create habitat for marine life
A single oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day.
Restoring oysters helps rebuild the Bay’s natural filtration system.
Seagrass - The Meadow
Seagrass plays a critical role in the ecosystem.
It:
- Provides shelter for fish and crabs
- Stabilizes the bay floor
- Improves water clarity
When seagrass returns, it signals a healthier Bay.
